Eric Gallot and Rita Walker

Eric, the youngest son of Ernest, was born around 1906.  He was dearly loved by all the girls and was certainly 'mothered' by them all.  He worked for Davis panel beaters in Vincent St off Pitt St.

He later met and married Rita Walker (Reeta Tyson?) and lived in Grey Lynn, Auckland.  Eric and Rita had one son, Michael Eric Gallot, before Eric headed off to serve in WW2 when Michael was only 6 months old.

Private Gallot (Ser no. 255816 21st Bn., N.Z. Infantry) served in Africa and Italy before he was killed in the battle of Casino, Italy on October 4th 1944 at the age of 29.  He is buried in Cesena War Cemetery, Italy (Grave Reference/Panel Number: I, B, 1.)

Cesena War Cemetery lies in the Commune of Cesena, in the Province of Forli, and is situated one kilometre north-east of Cesena railway station on the provincial road to Cervia (Route No.71 bis).  The cemetery site was selected by the Army in November 1944, and the cemetery was formed by concentrations from the surrounding battlefields. Those buried here died for the most part during the advance from Rimini to Forli and beyond in September-November 1944, an advance across one flooded river after another in atrocious autumn weather. There are now 775, 1939-45 war casualties commemorated in this site.
