"Old Uncle" James Wright Anderson

James married Annie McLaughlin's aunt Margaret Jane McCann (who had come to New Zealand on the same boat as the McLaughlin's), and following the death of Annie's mother, in 1882, she and her younger brother Marcus went to live with the Andersons in Thames.

The Andersons, who appear to have had money and no children, had moved back to Auckland by 1910 and helped Annie with her family after she had separated from Ernest. Annie obviously looked on him as a father, the couple were known as Old Uncle and Old Auntie to the children and after his wife died Annie nursed him and he was buried from their house.
